Heavily planted tank with discus will look amazing! But... It's a hell of a lot of work to keep the plants in tip top condition and do all the water changes to keep the discus happy.

The jar on the other hand.. Not what I would call pretty but very impressive fish! And far more interesting feeding times.

Thats what I was thinking. Are discus really that difficult to keep? Ive never had them before. Also would I be able to put a school of geos with discus?

It really depends on who you talk to. The hardest part is growing juvies into their 'full potential'. When I was raising eight discus if the nitrates went over 10ppm they all would turn black and stop eating. Feeding 4-5 times a day, siphoning all the food out after each feeding, and at minimum daily 50% water changes. Because I was feeding beef heart. Like I said earlier not difficult but very time consuming. I highly advise you to read read read and read some more about keeping discus before you do so. Large planted tanks are hard and so are discus BUT there's a great reward. I think a planted discus tank if done right is more beautiful than any reef.

Geos and planted tanks are not a good idea. Most of the time people say species only for discus or some sort of tetra but It's all subjective

I agree with the above...50% water changes daily isn't something I could commit to realistically with my 220g, so I never kept discus. Big bitey fish like Arowana, Parachromis etc are more my thing and I prefer them to pretty, colourful but fragile things... And I find them 'beautiful' but in a very different way. As always it comes down to what you want out of the tank, and I want fascinating interactive predators.
