Stocking 2 tanks.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That tank is beautiful, I would be very worried about putting a jag in the mix. If you do give the ebjd his own tank before it risks becoming the first of likely several casualties, good luck and keep us posted. Gorgeous fish

Even in nature, in places where JDs dominate and are the only cichlid, they do well. But anytime the habitat is shared with another (especially a more dominant one) , they tend to suffer.
First a video where they share with another cichlid.

now a video where the JDs dominate, and only share waters with lots of live bearers, and some catfish.

I won’t comment on stocking, I’ve never kept so many different cichlids together.
But if your willing to part with your terror I’d suggest doing so. All the fish look good but him. His belly looks empty and you can clearly see he is low on the pecking order.

Your ebjd is my favorite. Very nice color.

Id be concerned about adding the parachromis to the already potentially volatile mix youre proposing for the 220. It may work for awhile i guess. I dont have any better ideas without rehoming some of the big troublemakers.

Update: I did get the Jag from the local fish store. In the store, he was just hiding. Once he got in the 220, he was swimming around right away.

Unfortunately, my JDs are picking on him. But not too hard. The Red Devil, Red Texas and Convict leave him alone. I'm pretty sure its a male, anyway. But he still seems way more perked up than at the fish store.

I'll take some pictures later when I'm home from work.

Thanks, yes. The green terror has perked up majorly since putting all the bullies in the 220. He's looking a lot better temperament wise already. He used to hide a lot, but now he is front and center. I'll keep a close eye on him.

My hopes are that all of these hearty fish can spread the aggression around to fish who can take it and not get stressed out. We will see, but I will adjust accordingly if need be and get rid of some fish.

My Oscars, EBJD and Green Terror are sure a lot happier now, though.

Well, as of right now I think its okay for the time being as they're dominant in the tank. That being said, if that changes, how big of a takn would I need for a JD pair? And what else could I put in there with them that would help them thrive and would also look good?

Sounds sadistic, but the JD female was the first cichlid I bought. I bought her because the guy at the fish store said she killed 4 other JDs in the tank, then 3 more fish in the 'isolation tank'. I was like, damn! What a beast. She's definitely the most aggressive fish I have at the moment, and her colors are beautiful. My plan was to get a tank mate for my Oscars (that I hadn't purchased yet).. then Cichlid buying syndrome kicked in! Now I have a 130 gallon tank and a 220. :/

I'll have to convince the lady to get another tank, maybe. The JDs are my favorite fish to watch, so far.

Okay, here’s the 220.

By the way, they didn’t have a label on the Jag. I just recognized it. Can someone help confirm?

Anyway, so far so good in both tanks.
