There is now way you will have a gar for a long time in a 100 gal.
- There are soooo many cichlids out there that are really great fish all-around...

not too many predatory fish for a 5o that arent cichlids. a baby red tail, they arent aggressive but they are big, or pirahna, bluegill or small bass. yellow perch.

Try a baby rhom it should be fine in the 50 for a few years then move it into the hundred

No I have an empty 50 that I'm gonna use as a growout until there big enough to swim with the "big dogs" lol
