Interesting, so they look the same? My group is currently a little larger and in a tank with much brighter lighting then my friends group so I have not been able to see a side by side comparison.

as far as i know, yes they look the same. keep in mind their are also araguaia orangeheads that are a different species that looks pretty similar

I wouldn't mix Uarus in there, because they are large (and you'd need a group) and the Heros would kick their asses.

I disagree, in my experience Uaru and Heros do fine together and most severums species can get just as big as uaru

G. orange head tapajos and "peach face" are not the same species and look totally different. "Peach face" is also referred to as "Tapajos II".

As far as I am informed about earth eaters, the Tapajos are a little more agressive than the standard gentle Geophagus.

whoops guess I was wrong, sorry.

Of course there are some Heros that get as big as Uarus, no doubt. I just think that in a tank of this size (especially if rays are to be kept in there) it will be hard to house a decent group of both without having to constantly care for water parameters.

From keeping some in my own tank and from having them at the petstore where I work. IMHO Uaru are nearly as specialised fish as discus because they don't do well when kept in small groups, need warm and acidic water and if kept together with other species often are too "soft" in terms of temper. Also the fact that they need a diet with lots of greens in it adds to my advice not to put them in a community tank like this.

I appreciate all the input!

Water parameters should not be a problem. There will be a very large wet dry with excellent mechanical filtration. After this the tank will be getting a 15% daily water change utilizing a drip system.

I will be heating the tank off my water heater and planning on keeping it at 82-84 degrees.

How is the aggression of the green terrors? Seems like the name terror means they are super mean.

Do the peruvian altums get similar size to scalare or altum? I have only ever seen them at a small size.

My wife really likes the red spot and super red severums, would this mix fine instead of the rotkeils?

Great tank!! Sounds kinda similar to my 1400L/370g, I was planning on having a group of Peru Altums and altifrons but dropped the angels in favour of a group of uaru and a black aro. How many fish you put in there really depends on how you like your tanks to look. Do you want a more natural look and have it lightly stocked, or do you want a busy tank with a heap of fish in it?

I'd certainly leave out the green terrors, they are far more aggressive than the fish you're wanting to keep, and come from an area of South American with much harder water. I'd also think twice about the altifrons if you already have the Sp. Tapajos red head. They're both similar shaped fish, maybe a group of S. leucosticta would add a bit more variety in terms of shape and colour?

IMO you'b be better off with a single group of eartheaters and a mix of other cichlids. Take your pick from angels, Uaru, festivum, Heros, keyholes, true parrots etc. As I said, the quantity you go for really depends on how you want the tank to look.

And if you want to be picky none of them are really "species" yet, in the true sense of the word, when they finally are described they may be lumped together or split up. ;)

I have mixed different species of Geos and didn't like it. They got along well enough, but it was really hard to appreciate each species because they looked somewhat similar, and it got confusing.

With such a big footprint and some aquascaping, you should be able to keep quite a few different species and give them each enough room. They will give you nice contrast in color, shape, and behavior.

Here is a video of my 300 from last year. You might be interested in some of the species, especially the H. psittacus. They might get aggressive, but IME, given room, they are fairly mellow. I would strongly advise against GT.

Way too many fish in the tank, but your tank is a lot bigger ;)

They are undescribed...still species ;)

Very nice tank!

Would it be possible to see a complete stock list of that tank?

Where this fish grown out together or did you buy large / adult fish?
