Stocking 75g

Could a female motaguense work with an oscar in a 75g if they're alone?
Also my oscar isn't very aggressive. He just doesn't like when fish get too close to him, I think because when he was smaller he was almost killed by a jack dempsey.

edit: After reading up some more that probably wouldn't work. I'll probably just end up getting a regular JD again, but a little smaller than my oscar.
The JD at my LFS all have very unhealthy looking fins. Is this normal? They look collapsed and they've been like this for over 6 months. Even their older JDs have this.

This is reason to suspect your LFS may not have very good water quality... if the Dempseys ar ethe only fish that look like this they may simply have poor quality dempseys... Either way, I would look elsewhere...

Could it be from fin nipping with other dempseys?

Any other suggestions for tank mates? Otherwise I was thinking a white oscar, but I'm not sure if 2 oscars could do well in a 75g

More than one Oscar in a tank is risky... when young they get along great... as adults, usually they do not...

Two males will not get along... a male & a female may or may not form a pair, if they do not they likely won't get along... two females, may or may not get along... adding that all up and the odds are slim that they will get along...

If the clamped/nipped fins in the Dempseys are from anotehr Dempseys being too aggressive, that means there should be one Dempsey that is the aggressor and does not have nipped or clamped fins...

Basically you should be able to watch the tank for a while and tell if one fish, or some fish are parading around all happy, and other's are acting stressed / suppressed... Since we cannot see the tank, we can only guess...

It's probably a disease or bad water quality then. All of their fish are very healthy but all the jack dempseys scattered about are all unhealthy looking.
Usually lighter color. Most JD's I see are darker so I'm not sure if this normal around the 3" mark.

What do you suggest for my oscar tank then? I was thinking maybe tin foil barbs or something (idk about tank size, probably wouldn't work), but I'd really prefer another cichlid.

They look nice. I might get 2 different color varieties of those once I get it set up. I'll keep looking at the LFS for more interesting fish I might see.

i think a electric blue jack would go nicely with your oscar. jacks are pretty hardy and can defend themselves. in my experience oscars usually arent as crazy aggressive as devils or flower horns check out the blue dempsey the bright color wud look cool.

I've always wanted an ebjd. But I heard they get internal infections easily, which scares me. I heard it's usually only when they're smaller, but I'd have to get a smaller one, none of my LFS sells larger ones.
