Stocking 90 Gallon~ suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Smallest tank I'd try a jag pair in would be a 150-180. Male cichlids are asses lol. Have seen 2 oscars done in a 90 but wouldn't recommend it and you'd have to be crankin the water changes all the time n need a pretty good filtration set up.

That's the one catch about those piggies. I'd be doing 50% week with UGF and powerfilter is my plan

50% for 1 o probably wouldnt be enough once its full grown. 2 o's in a 90 is a bit small. A 90 is pretty much the same as a 75... same foot print just 15 more gals but space is the issue with these guys.

Do you like amphs ? One in a 90 would probably be a great wet pet

Eh, I already have a motaguense wet pet in a 75, but I might look into an Oscar + Dempsey or GT

just because most jags dont turn into monsters doesnt mean yours wont. and ive seen enough huge jags to tell you that a 90 gallon is not suitable for a male jag.
and a 48x18 tank is not suitable for two adult oscars either.

oscar/gt wont work imo because of the difference in growth rates. your oscar will be running while your gt is missing a leg.

maybe you can get away with the oscar/jack dempsey mix but as adults that 48x18 footprint will be pretty cramped.

I hear ya man. I just feel like oscars sometimes get mistreared because they are so common lots of people think they are indestructible . Not saying you would do that or feel that way

What about a non cichlid tankmate. Take a look a justrans oscar rescue thread the first rescue is a beast, would look great in a 90 but with a fish that beefy probably should get the whole thing to himself.

I am a little skewed on EBJD's , how about a pair of them in your 90...awesome colors , skittish upto a certain age....dont get very big very soon , nice blues and spangles

So one Oscar is probably the best idea, I want my fish to be happy so that is probably the best route.

Male Jag can get 14"-16" long not a lot of room for him in a 48" tank. Yes Oscars can and will bully each other, they cannot be sexed at a young age so figuring what you have (2 males, 2 females, a compatible pair ) can only be done at 12" or so. A single wet pet or a community tank is the way to go in your 90 gall. You could try a carpintis or Salvini pair in the tank but you will end with a divided tank at some stage those guys are very rough on each other.

OK I really honestly want a albino and tiger Oscar what tank size could I put them in... 90 was going to be the highest I would go because the tank is going to be on the second story. But I really want to Oscar fishhhhhyysss
