stocking a 120 gallon tank please help

Since both corys and clowns like a lower ph with softer water, and because they are peaceful and rather sensitive, I'd suggest keeping them with some south American cichlids if you wanted to keep cichlids. A nice big cichlid that's peaceful is a severum.
You could also keep geos or satanoperca, something the the blue acara, a small group of SAcichlids like keyholes, and angelfish or discus even... What do you like?

so suggestions for rocks then?

For rocks... just something that has a smooth surface and doesn't affect ph. I don't keep a lot of rock in my tank personally. I really like driftwood.

i had a red tiger oscar, this fish had a nice personality and was very peaceful. other than that, any links to pics of these fish?

Just google them... Severums come in several color varieties, are very peaceful, and have lots of personality. My favorite is the rotkeil severum....

if you already have the coral in there and wanted to go with african cichlids and want some lower aggression options you could go with yellow labs and red zebras, basically most malawi/mbuna cichlids

i had read before also that you could keep clown loaches with them but i trust clockwork on this one

you could try adding some syndontis catfish in there with them for bottom feeders.

African cichlids are another great option, but I wouldn't keep clown loaches with them, and especially wouldn't keep corys with them.
I've seen people keep clowns with Africans... It CAN be done but I'd say it's really not a good idea. Different water preferences, coupled with aggression levels, just a bad mix.
You can do a lot of things in this hobby, I'm just trying to give the best advice for the healthiest mix possible. I would never advise keeling clowns with Africans personally.

if you're gonna go auratus i'd get more rocks to work with as they tend to be rather aggressive so the more hiding spots the better. in a 120 i think you could go with anywhere from 12-20 fish depending on which species you chose and how much rock work and filtration you're willing to add
