Stocking a 125 with centrals.

Any of the smaller parachromis would make a good pair. Doviis and jags may be too big and mean, but the rest should have enough space as a pair.

Which parachromis are small enough?

It looks like Loiselle , Friedrichstahlii , & Motaguense ?

Are there any others? I like the idea of a parachromis.

Oh gezzzz. I just looked it up. I didn't realize the males got that BIG.
I spent so long thinking they only got 12 inches. Almost bought one multiple times. Glad I didn’t.
Females stay small.

You could look into Mayan cichlids or RTM, both have a similar pattern and are much smaller.

You don't have Friedrichstahlii in your pictures. Both 1 & 2 are P multifasciatus.

Here are P. friedrichstahlii

Ah, thanks!
I just googled the images I used, I’m still learning proper ids.

Did i read somewhere the Freddy's name got changed to Multifasciatus?
I’m pretty sure freddys became Multies and loiselle became Freddy. Don’t quote me on that though.

Please don't just attempt to google people's questions and repost whatever you can find. You seem good intentioned, and everyone gets stuff wrong sometimes, but I've seen you speaking from google and not experience a few times now. MFK has been around so long for offering people good advice, and we need to call stuff like this out to keep it that way.

I do agree that most of the smaller parachromis species should be do-able in a 125 gallon. It may be difficult in any size tank to keep an aggressive male from killing a female however, so should still exercise caution. For example I had a pair of p. panamensis no bigger than about 4" as the only cichlids in a 90 gallon, would have though that would be enough space, but the male still killed the female. Flower pots with holes that only the female can fit into are an old trick, and utilizing a divider may be necessary. Species like grammodes or some parachromis may need to be separated most if not all of the time. They can actually spawn through the divider as well.

Maybe I'd have better luck with an Amphilophus pair as opposed to Parachromis?
I did more research last night and it seems like most of the Parachromis have a good chance of needing a divider most of the time. I don't mind having a divider on hand but would hate for them to live divided all their lives.
