stocking a 12gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok cool this is what she want.
1 electric blue ram cichlid
5 green neon tetra
2 dwarf sucker mouths

would that be OK???

my only issue with the above is that Ram cichlids, to do well, have some pretty demanding water requirements. they like high temps (mid-to-high 80s), minimal nitrates, and soft water . . . would probably be compatible with the neons (might try to eat them, I suppose), but it does mean a little more work on your part

also, I don't know that a Ram cichlid would do well on it's own . . . they strike me as a fish that does best in pairs . . .

no worries, and soft water is definite + . . . I use R/O water in my Ram tank, and it seems to make a world of difference from my previous experiences with Rams . . .

it's just a personal impression I have, that Rams do better in pairs than solo . . .

oh ok but my G- ma doesn't want babies.

in a 12G, I'd rather keep a single Ram than a pair of females, and certainly not a pair of males . . .

so, if "no babies" is the rule, then I'd go with a single male . . . just don't know if you'll bring out the full color of the male w/o a female to show-off for :)
