Stocking a 160G tank. <First post>

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you want a pair I would get 5-6 juvie jags from various LFS if possible, and then grow them out and keep the best looking pair. As long as the bichirs have plenty of hiding spots I would see no problem with 2 or 3.

What type of filtration will you be running?

Oh thanks for correcting me.

very rare to see pairs sold on CL. I would do what formulatedfire said and go to 2 or 3 stores and buy 2-3 jags from each and get your pair that way. Also if you do get a pair of jags you probly have alot of trouble keeping any other fish with the pair. When i had my pair they were killers. I was bitten alot by them from the time they were about 4 oir 5 inches till i sold them and the male was about 13 inches or so

By CL, I suppose you guys mean CraigsList?
Well Check my location, I am from India :)

And thank you all for the replies. I am running a canister along with 2 6000L/H internal filters. I am really tempted to go only with jags, but my parents wont allow. They say its a waste of space (Huge tank and only 4 fish?!?). Then again I dont blame them for it. Anyways, I was thinking of getting a pair of jags ASAP and them to the tank. It currently houses tinfoils, small rosy barbs, Blue gouramis, a few plecos, corries, a single 10" Black shark (NOT labeo Bicolor) and some Koi. Most likely rosy barbs and corries will be goners in the first week, till then I can rehouse the other fishes. I HATE rosy barbs.

Oh my gosh. show your parents a pic of a full size jag. Please do not let your parents do this. my parents think that i sometimes under stock my tanks. But they at least let me do what I want. sometimes My parents think overstocked tanks are understocked tanks. talk to your parents.

Yes we mean Cregs list

learn to spell oscaroo. Most people who are real fish keepers will tell you theres nothing better than a jag pair which is true. You could go another route and search for other fish in the parachromis family. There are loiselli, freddy, RTM. These fish will stay around a foot in length. You could also look into the veja species and the amphilophus species. A pair of amphs would do very nice in that tank.
