would a single male convict be ok in there for life. any other ideas appreciated.

I have a single female convict housed in a 20 long. She'll probably be living in it for the rest of her life. Now females are smaller then males, but I don't see why you can't put a male in a 20 long. A 29 is recommended for 1, but a 20 long has the same footprint, and cons usually don't swim a foot above the substrate.
