stocking a 36*18*18..

I used to have a Salvini in the past until he leapt to his death. He was about 6-7". He could definitely hold his own for sure. They are a beautiful cichlid to say the least. As others have stated Salvini's can be pretty vicious. The female Salvini colors are more intense. In saying that males look great also. I think a 40g could hold a male or female solo only. A breeding pair would require a 75g minimum. Just my 2 cents. GL

well it seems salvini is not in my favour this time. the lfs sold out all 6 , minutes before i called . new plan is to form a small community around a solo firemouth i have. do you think this stock would do fine?
solo 3" firemouth ( seems to be a male)
6 bronze cory cats
6 albino cory cats
6 lemon/black skirt tetras or zebra danios.
1 black ghost knife (3-4") ( will shift it into my 120 after he grows a bit )

That seems good. Tetras over danios, as danios are an easy meal.

I would increase the school of the Black Skirt Tetras to 12. You will see a difference in shoaling before with a higher number. Why black tetras? The temperature range of the black tetra is the same as the cories and FM (67F+). Keep the shoal amount of cories to 12.

i didn't quite clearly understand what you said. did you mean 12 corys each (24 in total)? or 12 of any one type only? and what did you mean by " Why black tetras? "
should i get some other type of tetra?
what about the black ghost knife ? should i get it ? i already have the tank for its upgrade but for now will the firemouth not harass it ?

I’m pretty sure the “why black tetras” was a rhetorical question, as in confirming why you should get them.
12 total cories.
BGK should be fine, firemouths aren’t particularly aggressive.

No he meant that you should get them. He was saying that they were the best option as far as tetras go.

oh my bad , so the stocking i initially meant is good enough right? fine then will get them as soon as possible and start quarantining. will probably first get the bgk and 6 bronze corys and after adding them to the main tank get the next 6 corys and 12 skirt tetras in the second batch as the lfs has 2 bgk left and just about 6corys left. and i just have standard 10 gallon for quarantining.
