I wouldn't be able to get six, because I am unable to rehome the other four once paired.

ok then just get a firemouth, Blood Parrot, pike cichlid and a Blue Acara.

Cichlids eat plants... and maybe if u can get a crenicichla proteus..

I have just checked the website of the LFS, and they've pulled all of the cichlids except Firemouths, JDs, Threadfin Acaras, Gold Saums, and Crenicichla sp. Would a Threadfin Acara, a JD, and a Gold Saum work in a tank of this size?

no all get to big and a threadfin acara cichlid is a geo need to be in a grou of 6.. The ones that would be fine in that tank for life would be firemouth, Blood Parrot, Blue Acara and Rainbow Cichlid

I'll have to see if I can find a local breeder who sells any of those (besides the firemouth), otherwise, I'll be stuck with a species tank of firemouths.
