55 tank stocking idea one (12 fish)
1. Labidochromis caeruleus – electric yellow (2)
2. Pseudotropheus sp. "Acei" –Yellow Tail Acei OR Pseudotropheus saulosi (2)
3. Metriaclima estherae – Red Zebra (2)

Is this okay? Upon further reading... I heard that zebra's and yellows could crossbreed? If so I should choose only one? Because hybrid fry are hard to get rid of... and you can't "fix" a fish. I also read that Saulosi should not be housed with other blue or yellow fish... which is like all of them...

The suggested setups will work, the CF mods compiled all the cookie cutter setups with compatibility in mind.
With africans pairs do not usually work. You need a group of fish to displace aggression, overstocking mbuna is a common practice that helps with aggression.

I haven't messed with the easier mbuna for a long time except for the lions cove strain of electrics, but just to play it safe, I would choose five from three groups for a cycled aquarium. Make certain to have that aquarium cycled already, as new mbuna aren't exactly welcomed.

its really cheap to light planted tanks though with shop lights, the only problem is mounting them, inserting molly bolts in a ceiling creates lots of dust and crap that can fall into the tank if its already set up. I have a planted 55 and 2 shelves of 10 gallon planted tanks (for breeding feeders) in my kitchen. They are lit by two shop lights from home depot. total cost (including lightbulbs) was about 60 dollars.

Of course you would only need half of this though, but not buying bulk it would cost probably 45 or so

I'm doing Just Kenyi. I have two Kenyi already and I'll be adding more soon. The tank is already cycled and the newbies to the tank have taken over. They leave my Bristlenosed pleco's alone though, which is good. I started reading and the more I read the more and more I found where electrics and zebra's can interbreed and where Salousi would not do well with other blue or yellow fish... so I went with Kenyi. WHich wasn't on the list but is very nice. Agressive but nice. My pair are about 2-3 inches. I took the dominant female and the dominant male from the group and I'm going back to get about 3-4 more females on Friday.

What about a few Blue acara? maybe a pair of JD. its a little small for 2 JDs unless you get a male/female or 2 females.
