Building my own room in the garage. Just using wood posts to build a frame and a liner inside it. Using a pressurised pond filter for filtration with a 2400gph pump. I will have SA pond on the opposite side of the room soon as well. Want to get one going first and work out any kinks before I build the other one. All of my tanks but one will be going in the room as well.

is there going to be a top on the pond

No top. I know aro's are jumpers so I just going to make about a 12" ledge. I have been a little worried about it possibly jumping. I can hold it in my 220g for a while but it will eventually need more space. I would be crushed if my 19" black aro jumped. I'm thinking of ways to prevent it.

Paratheraps breidohri!!! Those guys are awsome.

Yeah, the pictures of Mo's make me want some. I think there might have to be a purchase made for some.

pictures please?

No pics yet. I deal with slow internet so it's a real pain to post pictures. Plus I want to wait until everything is finished so you guys can see the final product.

Thanks man!! It is some of you guys with your awesome fishrooms and setups that have inspired this project. Plus in the long run it is going to really cut down on my tank maintenance and overall work. Hoping I can work smarter with the fishroom and have more time to enjoy the fish and fry raising.

I pretty much already have most of what I want for the SA pond.

5 hoplarchus psittacus
6 Heros Notatus
2 Geophagus altifrom "manuas"
5 Geophagus Altifrons "tocantins"
3 Hecklii
1 heros rotkeil
1 heros super red
1 black aro

Need to find a few more of each eartheater and a mate for my super red and rotkeil. Might also eventually get a pair of heros atabapo down the road. Also will be looking for a wild temporalis pair.

Sounds awesome. Agreed on more geos, and a couple of big chunky temporalis will be nice.

I'd cover it just to keep humidity down and keep heating costs reasonable.

It would be nothing to run a couple of 1x4s across the top as a support for an egg crate lid (clip some thin plexi to the top of the sheets of egg crate).

That's a good idea for a cheap top. I wasn't planning on heating anything in the room other then the room itself unless I have too. I think with a dehumidifier and small radiator heater I can keep it around 80 pretty easily. At least that is what I'm hoping. I'm just going to have to tinker with things and see how it works:).

If it's your garage and your garage door's not insulated, I'd heat the pond...but cover and insulate the pond.

A space heater will be 1250W...and will run constantly to keep it 80 in there. Insulate under and around the pond (styro) and you'll be in good shape...
