Stocking a 75 Gallon Catfish Aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well being on a 3-day fishing trip now is kind of making me want natives so is there any way I could add a bullhead, would any of these stocks work?

6 giant danios
1 striped raph
1 gibbiceps pleco (growout)
1 brown bullhead (growout)

or

1 striped raph
1 gibbiceps pleco
1 black lancer
1 brown bullhead

or

1 striped raph
1 gibbiceps pleco
1 P. Ngamensis
1 brown bullhead

Ill make sure to have enough hiding spots for all the catfish and I'm also aware that the brown bullhead may eat the GDs. Water changes would be 40-50% weekly so could any of those stocks work or should I just forget the bullhead and do my original stock.

PS, found a nice catfish cave while walking the beach a few minutes ago for cover in this tank!image.jpg

It's like this thread is cursed to never get any replies (other than one from Dan)

lol, I think your best plan would be 4-5 cats an a cichlid or something that wont sit on the bottom waiting for food all day. Just as long as you keep up on waterchanges I dont think that'll be overstocked at all.

Alright thanks Dan! As long as none of the last three stocks were overstocked I'll have my choices and be done with this thread.

Talked to the guy at my local bait store a few weeks ago and he said from now until about the end of September he regularly gets in brown bullhead juvies with fathead minnows so I've got a source. Only thing I worry about is if they're in with bait minnows how healthy will the bullhead be? I'd hate to put it in my tank then some disease wipes out my whole stock. I could put it in a 5 gallon bucket as a quarantine for a week or so but I have no extra filter and we all know how filthy they are, maybe just a new sponge filter and some seeded gravel with?

Now I just need to decide whether to do a black lancer or parauchenoglanis with it, leaning towards the lancer though. Would it be a problem to house a 5-6" lancer with a 1.5-2" bullhead?

bullheads are usually pretty bully-ish, i've been bitten multiple times and they have killed most fish i put with him, and parauchenoglanis are very hard to find personally i think the lancer (which have a tenancy to lay on horizontal facing heaters) would be better with something else like a shoal of pictus cats or sun cat maybe? and
