Stocking a new 100 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oscar + Arrow may also be an issue... I agree w/ nixing the Oscar altogether. unless you get lucky and get a laid back one. And what are the tank dimensions atm? they can make a difference of how long those fish will be happy in that size tank. and expect 1"+ a month or more from the TSN, and Arrow. Where the BGK and CL's will grow at a much slower pace. and the TSN will likely not play nice w/ the CL's and BGK once they get larger, and likely will predate them.

The tank dimensions are 60"X18"X20 inches high

I have the clown loaches in a seperate tank at the moment whereas the rest are just being considered so the CL's can stay in the tank they are currently in if they need to. Just to make it interesting does anyone have a stock list they would reccomend? (again it will be a grow out tank so any fish recomended wouldn't need a permanent home in the 100 (eventually plan on getting a indoor pond AND a larger tank so as long as it isnt an arapaima size shouldn't be a big problem, its mostly the compatibility, I was considering getting some of the fish from liveaquaria.com anyone ordered from them before? and would it help if I got a larger BGK instead of the small one listed before?

1- Silver Arowana (2 inch estimated)
1- tiger Oscar (2.5 inch estimated)
1- TSN (4 inch estimated)
2- Clown Loaches (2 inches also)
1- Black Ghost Knife (also around the same size)
This stock will work if you take out the TSN. I'm not sure how the BGK would do with the rest of that stock though, it might eventually get eaten. If you want a catfish, then I would recommend getting a smaller species like maybe a juruense or a leiarius marmoratus. A Leiarius pictus would also do well if you can afford one.

the stock should be fine... it really depends what the fish is like, some can be aggro and some are peaceful. ive kept my silver aro with a pair of oscars with no problem. not really sure about that BGK, most likely will get eatin by the oscar or tsn.

wow, alright, so ALOT of different opinions but pretty much everyone agrees the BGK has gotta go, no biggy... any other suggestions? The more advice I get the better prepared I will be... I have also always been really interested in characins like the ATF etc, but really wasnt that into have a 500 gallon tank(full grown) for just one fish (although it would b awesome :naughty: just isn't economic for me) I would rather have a humongous tank for multiple bad-A fish :headbang2
