Stocking a new tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^ Imho, we all have to start somewhere with monster fish such as rays... And as long as the OP does his research, i dont see why he couldnt venture into that direction...

Especially since this is MFK, no better place to start looking for tips on ray husbandry...

Agreed. Rays aren't that difficult to keep than most other freshwater fish. They need to be fed well with clean water. If you keep your water clean, you can keep anything.

+1. Fish keeping isn't really a skill like wood carving or painting that requires hours of practice. All you need is to understand the requirements of the fish you're keeping and what you need to do to provide them. Research and learning are the keys, not years of finely honed skills.

I think i will try pazzoman's idea with a ray on the bottom and a few peacock bass in the middle and the arowana, but thank you all with your other suggestions.

pick some fish that has the same water parameter requirements... I'd tell you that. For the pick of yours, everyone may say all the fish but it all depends on you. =) List some fish from semi-aggressive to those who has a high temperament there is...

Hope you're going with the 300g in that case, or bigger!

(and don't go for one that is taller than it is wide too)

Yea i will thoroughly research the fish you guys listed. I am not 100 percent sure if the tank will be a 300 or not, and if it isn't i will make sure to not get sting rays, arowanas, etc.

^ You should avoid such big fishes if it's 300g below, once it growout the tanks you have to set up another large tank, or a pond that will make you spent more. But that's not just the issue, it'll be the health of the fish you're going to adopt. well I hope for the best! happy fish keeping!

remember to update us with the priceless pics!
