Hi all, from the UK! I've finally created an account, having stalked MFK for years (on and off).

Some stocking advice please. I don't have a monster tank, a humble 55G / 210L. I have two eheim canisters giving about 1,400L p/h turnover plus a power head. Water is always crystal clear.

I presently have 1 EBA, 6 SD's and 3 pictus cats. All doing incredibly well. But I really want an EBJD... opinions? Would I be pushing it? There's some locally but I'm after some advice before buying.

Some other info that might help. Tank is very well established but current stock has been in there for about 6 month. The Acara is about 4.5", pictus are about 3.5" and Silver Dollars are about 3" (metynnis hypsauchen). I would expect all of them to get to the 5-6" mark. This might help?

you can always add one now and use it as a reason to get a bigger tank later. silver dollars can get bigger than 6". the acara might be to peaceful to be housed with a jd at least mine is.

I liked the advice and a bigger tank is definitely on the cards for 2020.... so I just picked up a 2" baby!

To be honest, I'm not sure how truly 'electric blue' it is though. My EBA was bright as anything when I got it. This supposed EBJD certainly has potential, I can see that it has war paint on the face and blue scales - brighter than others I've seen.

Do they colour up with age? Or is it likely I've got a cross between a normal and an electric blue??? Like I say, brighter than others it's size but it's not electric blue all over right now.

all ebjd have the normal jd genes so technically they are not cross breeds they are genetic variations. at 2" it still has lots of development left. post a pic if you can!

It will always be a top dog especially with Cichlids and just the two may become a problem with dominance. Tbh never kept EBJ but read and heard they are less aggressive than the normal JD.

I have a jd now who hides all the time and is a giant wuss. I've had others like that too and then theres the ones who define the jd reputation. its very fish by fish imo.

Thanks for all the opinions everyone. The EBJD has been in for a few hours now and is completely dwarfed by the EBA - who won't leave him alone. It's not aggression at all - just being inquisitive and over friendly. I'll get a photo tomorrow when I turn the lights back on. Hopefully then you can tell me if it is indeed an electric blue.

My logic is that by getting the EBJD last and being the smallest - it'll grow up accepting of its tank mates and be mellow!!

So... Sorry in advance for the poor photo quality. I took an opportunity to take some photos during a water change. Opinions, is it an electric blue? The photos genuinely don't do the colour justice.
