Alright, here's what I'd do. You're thinking of scrapping the gobies.... probably not a bad idea. Even if they were the only inhabitants, they would ultimately wreck each other in a 29. Maybe keep one, keep the daffodil and you could add either another single fish of a different species or a small pair of Altomlamps.
Altolamps grow very slowly. If you picked up a 1.5" long pair (you will need someone to vent them to ensure M/F), they would be good for at least a year in there before you needed to upgrade to a 55. From what I've seen, they are also not nearly as aggressive as paired Neolamprologus (daffodil, brichardi, leleupi, cylindricus) or Julidochromis.
It is taking a chance, but something I'd be fine trying out.
Another alternative would be to get another daffodil. They will spawn and sort of colonize the tank (while still getting rid of all but 1 gobie). You will have babies coming out of your ears... a pretty spectacular tank, honestly. The issue with that would be potential aggression against any other tank mates and you will most likely need to get rid of everything else eventually. I've never tried a single gobie with a pair of daffodils/brichardi.
