Do you recommend any species of african cichlids in particular that don't really need the height aside from shell dwellers?

Most mbuna will do fine in a 4x4x1
My favorite would be shelldwellers though, with some rockdwellers such as julidochromis or compressiceps as well. Could do a good amount in this size tank, as long as there are lots of rocks.
