Stocking for a 5.5 gallon aquarium

Mosquitofish. They are bulletproof. The only way your sister could kill them would be if she dropped the tank off the roof of your house. Get a good lid, as they can jump like nobody's business. They are pretty personable and can be taught to hand feed. They are cheap or even free if you can catch them and will breed like rabbits. Oh, and you can put a few in a 5g. Up to 5 IMO if they are males and 3 if they are females. And they don't need a heater.

Well your best bet is a Betta. They have loads of personality, are very hardy, very colorful and very active. it helps a lot to put live plants in because i have noticed that that's where my betta sleeps. It is great for the plants too because the plants can consume so much waste and the light density because it is a short tank is very strong. I want to get a piece of driftwood for mine to replace some ugly rocks. They can go a few days without food and are all around great fish.

Here are some pictures of my betta setup:

mmm bread... lol anyway she says she wants a betta so now she has to decide what color and tail variety. ha so what are good tank mates for bettas since i know she will ask. she does want to get an apple snail. could one fit in a 5.5?

My bettas have killed everything I've put in with them. Some people will insist they're community fish, but I've learned the hard way that isn't true. They've killed cories, guppies, tetras, and eaten snails.

Another option is endlers. They're as hardy and prolific as guppies, but still uncommon enough that they have some cache for kids.

she might like a african dwarf frog with her betta.
