I really like the look of the Hoplarchus but a google search says that they like acidic ph in the range of 5.5-6.5. Do you think they would be of in 7.0-7.2 range of ph?

Also, Insignis and Festivas didn't come up on a google search. Is there more to the name that I would need for a search? Thanks.
Here you go...

PH would be fine if it's consistent. So your water (IMO) is fine as long as it doesn't fluctuate to high or to low.

I say stay with the asian them...... You could even do a cool borneo biotope type tank....I say get rid of the pleco and do a drift wood and round rock tank with med current with java fern attached where u can get it... for fish id go with this for final stock on that sized tank.

8 Bala Sharks
20 Clown Loaches
40 Tiger Barbs

That would leave room if the barbs started breeding and the loaches didnt get all the babys....Tiger barbs are not nippy when in a group this big to busy trying to keep there own pecking order in check and you would probly see the loaches swim with the barbs or threw the bars would be a cool sight you could add other fish but id keep it atleast a asian themd tank.......

For algea control if you ever get it or if you wat some more fish u could add like a group of 12 Siamese algea eaters.... and that will leave plenty of room for the fish to swim if u do some reaserch you might even beable to get the clowns to breed........

You could even ditch the boreno biotope idea and add all kinds of asian fish. Im big into the idea of fish devloped differently in different places for a reason.........

How about some wide banded silver dollars?I have 5 of the thin banded they just spar with each other. If you try to keep just one they could be nippy. Also check out some of the rarer pseudacanticas plecos. L-114 leopard cactus comes to mind. These guys are carnivores and will not poop so much as a sailfin. They will not bother your other fish either. Just keep 1 as it will get large. Red tail prochilodus (flagtail) would do well in a large tank like that. These are just some raree species I have mentioned since the tank is 500 gallons. Wish I had one. LOL
