Stocking ideas for 6 footer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Latest info:

Here's the stocking list:
-Silver Arowana 12"
-7" Tiger Oscar, Pleco
- Maybe 8" Peacock Bass( I havent bought this guy yet..)
- 6/7" TSN catfish ( this is still not mine yet..)

Well that's all what do you guys think? I wanna make it look as nice as possible.. so here are questions/ideas
1- Aluminium hood
2- The lights im sill not sure... Guys can anyone suggest the cheapest and most effective way to light up a 6 foot long tank? maybe a DIY light that just sits on part of the glass sheet?
3- Sump- how big should it at least be?
4- Sand substrate. How can I build a cave with a PVC pipe? Like have something around the pipe like clay or polystyrene covered with cement to look more natural...

Thanks :D:D

NO tsn or pacu. I'd do your silver aro, 2 peacock bass, the oscar and the pleco. Maybe instead of the tsn grab a few lima shovelnoses?

I used to have a TSN. Traded it in for a Lima. Why? The TSN will literally eat anything that will fit in it's mouth. If you buy it, don't be suprised if it ends up eating your other fish in the future. I'd say get a Lima. I love the guys, they're unique, and won't really grow any bigger than a foot and a half. The really do have great personalities.

I really wouldn't reccomend the TSN unless housing it with other monsters cats (like RTC and such). I'd say your stock is fine except for the TSN. Get somethin along the lines of a Lima or somethin, else get an extra oscar, bass, or somethin else.

I'm not gonna stop you. Get the TSN if you'd like, but you'll prob have to get a bigger tank in the future and you'll just have to be ready incase it eats any of it's tank mates.

Why?? I mentioned earlier ill skip the pacu... but the TSN... i think ill keep it for a while they look so cute(i know i know theyll grow big and blah) and i loove catfish a lot and my LFS just got they're first TSN's so i just wanna grab one so badly

I decided not to use glass as a hood... discussed with another guy that day and glass may break and injure...So he suggested using aluminium as a hood? good enough?

Of course it will break, everything will break, duh. And aluminum will rust, so that's dumb of him to suggest. I would go with glass or acrylic for the tops.

Just get pre made glass tops....I'd say skip on the Aro too unless you get a black (you'll need a bigger tank but blacks are slow growers vs Silvers right?) How about a Jaguar Catfish (Really cool IMO) and a Black Aro then when it outgrows the tank get a 300gal....SDs
