well i would def recommend a midas, they are awesome fish and i regret getting rid of my guy, i prefer their more chunky look to red devils but that of course is personal preference, you could maybe do a carpinte pair (though you would have to keep a close eye out for aggression), a salvini pair with a big school of some type of tetra and a smaller cat/pleco would be an interesting looking tank, or even a grammode or istlanum pair, just really depends on what you want, if you want a single wet pet or a pair or several smaller cichlids in a community...

Are you looking more for 1 or 2 larger fish or 3 or so small-med?

I think I would rather have 1 or 2 large fish.
My other tank is 180 tropical community, so I want fish that are large and colorful.
What is CA/SA?

I plan on using colorquartz for the substrate and a large piece of driftwood for lots of swimming space. And im not doing live plants.

What do you consider awesome?

To me a awsome fish looks at you follows you attacks you eats from your hand, jumps for food and likes to own his tank along with body shape and color or markings.

Thats just what I like.

thats exactly what im looking for! That is an awesome fish.
I like feeding my aussie rainbows crickets but I want something just a little more impressive.

I have a 72 gallon bow front and I have that little guy in my avatar in it great little fish has grown really fast.

you should get a Midas or red devil if you have never had one before you will have years of fun with him and in time if you want put up a divder and add a female for him its an amazing thing watching fish becoming parents

what fish is that in your avatar?

Midas and red devils are kinda plain looking to me.
I dont know if I want a breeding pair, I really have no place for the juveniles and no lfs to give them to.

if you just want one or two awesome colored personable fish then you should def go for either a single midas or a pair of carpintis (most pictures really do no justice to the awesome blues of these guys) most make them look greenish but especially the vontehillos and escondido variants have an extremely vibrant blue (the vontehillo is my personal favorite, another i am regretting getting rid of!! sucks only being able to have one tank haha

and thats a flowerhorn in ciocca's avatar...

yeah those vontehillos are really nice looking. do they still get big as the midas or red devils?

Also no lfs by me would have any of these fish, do u guys get your livestock online?

Definitly!!! But most ca/sa get 10 inches and bigger. I couldnt see 3 or 4 big fish in there unless they were all non aggressive.

For the record, this is a false statement. There are plentiful amounts of CA/SA cihclids that stay below the 10" mark. These, of course, aren't big bruisers like the Amphilophus and Parachromis, but they are CA/SA cichlids nonetheless.

To the OP, a standard 75 gal is a great tank for a large growing wet pet like a Midas or Flowerhorn (Trimac would work just as well if you're not into hybrids). Really fun fish to keep, extremely owner responsive, and many of them grow into real glassbangers.

Also, no reason, IMO, that one couldn't keep, say, a convict, salvini, and meeki in a 75 for life together. These are three, typically aggressive, smaller cichlids (with exception of the salvini, where a male can get to the 9"-10" mark) who could more than likely survive together in a 75 with the right setup.
