Hey everyone

I have been posting in other parts of the forum about what I wanna put in my 225 gallon tank an this option I have thought about for awile

I live right bye the st lawrance (15 minutes away) so catching some wouldnt be a problem but im nto sure what to put in the tank ???

I wanna keep the fish in there for a long time an not worry about them getting to big

I was thinking about a large mouth bass an 5 or 6 perch with a coulpe of bull heads ??? would that work or will the bass pretty much eat them all ???

or if you know of a better setup please tell me

also if you all have large tank setups with native fish please tell me im curious to know what you all have an do you also know of any links i could go check out about keeping native fish ???

if you plan on keep a LM bass be aware of how much they cost to keep fed. in the summer you can easily do it with a minnow trap in a river but in the winter and high water periods it might be almost impossible to gather any native fish, then you would have to buy worms, minnows, crayfish and other prey. you need a large diverse diet for them to grow and be healthy. i had a 5 inch one and he could eat 5 dollars worth of minnows in two days and still be hungry and attack pellets. 225 gallons would deffinitly be big enough for a decent amount of time but you could be out in a hard position in a few years when he gets bigger, many people would say let him go where you caught him and catch a smaller one but this is in fact one of the worst things you can do because you could introduce a disease or parasite that you fish got from what you feed them especialy if you get any food from your lps. also if you keep any fish with it they will be fine as long as they are about around its size but some day as he will out grow most of the fish that they could disapear. LM bass are easily kept but you need to commit to it. hope that helps alittle

what are u dimms if its wide u could get rays+clown loaches aros tins fai fengs bichirs

Perch, bullheads and maybe river chub. No LMB, at least if you want to keep the perch.

I'm new to all this so I don't really know much about native fish keeping so...how do you keep the water cold? Is there such thing as a water cooler?

sounds like it would be a cool set up though. good luck

a tank isn't complete without an arowana

Chillers are available, they are expensive $600+, ( you can make one for lesswith a small refridgerator, a watter pump, and a long coil of 1/2" tubing). For many fish like yellow perch, bullheads, and bluegills, an unheated room temp. tank is cool enough if you have sufficient surface movement.

plus the lmb will get big and fast

Your fish should be fine without a chiller if your keeping LMB, perch, bullheads, sunnies, crappies, and the usual natives. The only fish I can think of that may really benifit from a chiller is walleyes and trout.

I say if you get a bass make sure he is smaller or the same size as the other fish or else they're just feeders. If you want active fish then definitely get a few bullheads. Also bullheads are nice to watch if you have a few because they stick together in a school and follow each other. Bass are aggressive and always chase the other fish and each others.

As long as they're the same size you should be fine with all the species out there, well most species.

Walleyes are very shy and are not the best aquarium fish if you want fishes that are tame.

If you want some tank ideas go and look for my post, I got some pics.

thanks for the info so far guys I was thinkin that a lmb would get big an cost alot so my second option were either small mouth bass or rock bass since they are alot smaller so I may get 2 small mouth basss instead with the perch an bull heads
