Stocking Ideas for my tank 😁

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Understood. I saw this really nice tank at a pet store. It was smaller then my tank probably around 40 gallon and had multiple(about 5) fully grown angels in it and school of some fish and alot of plants. if i could creat something like that with a pair of german blue rams i will be more than happy. How does that sound ??

I like the way keyhole cichlids act and how peaceful they are but the colour pattern on them is not the best i think. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

is that over stocked ??
Sounds like a good plan. But...

BIG WARNING: The German Blue Rams that you find at big-box stores have been inbred so much and tampered with so much at aquaculture facilities that they're very weak. They need pristine water quality to survive and are more fragile than discus.

Hence, if you were to get German Blue Rams, I would suggest getting wild ones or locally bred ones. OR you can try Bolivian rams. They're not as colorful as German Blue Rams but they're much tougher since they haven't been inbred.

You can also try apistos which look colorful but they tend to be quite expensive.

What kind of dither fish do you recommend with angels?

I will look into apistos.

Smaller, tall bodied tetras (serpae, lemon, pristella, diamond, etc.) would be good with angels. They are large enough to not get eaten but not aggressive like larger tetras.
As said, I second not doing the acaras and the angels - not enough territory for them all, but picking one species would be fine.
Apistos, rams, or other dwarf cichlids would allow you to get a larger number and them all have enough territory. 3-4 would be fine. Breeding would be inevitable (assuming you wind up with a male and female) if proper conditions are given, but it would make for an interesting display and most offspring would be *removed* by the other fish.
