Hi guys...

Looking for some suggestions... Ive recently just got back into fish keeping. Im currently mid cycle on a 55 gallon tank that Im looking to put some hearty live plants into. Currently I have some african root wood and natural color substrate/gravel. A friend gave me a convict and some of his filter media to help cycle it along.

My biggest issue is, I cant decide what I want to stock it with. I know I cant do anything huge because of my tank size. A 55 is the largest we can comfortably fit in out home at this point and we're ok with that.

I just need some ideas... I really like the idea of Native fish, but I dont know much about them. My friend is telling me african cichlids. Im just not sure.

I will say that I have 2 clown loaches in another tank that I want to eventually transfer over to the 55, so doing native fish and clown loaches wont mix. That has kind of steered me away from the native fish.

Thoughts guys and gals?

Thanks...Justin

How about Rainbowfish or Discus?
Also the Clown Loaches will outgrow that tank...

Sorry, didn't see the part about the Convict. If you are planning on keeping then I would make it a cichlid tank

I'm aware that the loaches will out grow a 55, however they grow very slowly. By the time they are too big, I can sell them off for a lot more than I paid for them.

They are roughly 3.5" now. The convict was given to me, but the owner said he would gladly take him back if I decided I didn't want to do a cichlids tank. He is basically in there to cycle the tank.

I would go with the Rainbows or Discus then, seeing as Clown Loaches of that size may get bullied by Cichlids

So I think I've decided to hunt down some black banded sun fish. I'll sell my loaches to a friend who has a 180 gallon.

Where do I source these beauties? I looked for the member here that was largely into natives, but he isn't active. Anyone else here into natives that can direct me to the right place?
