Stocking ideas!

interesting metaphor but why couldnt i have both? just for learning sake of knowing

I didn't mean to say you can't have both SA and CA in the same tank. I meant to say, IMO, it's difficult to have a great looking tank by mixing SA and CA species. It's not necessarily about the well being of the fish........somewhat subjective and it's up to you.

I haven't kept breidohri but my old argentea was very aggressive. I wouldn't keep it with Geo. orange heads.

Ohh ok i got you lol i was confused at first but ya i guess that is all personal preference i personally just like the look of the 3 and thought they may look nice in the same tank. I may try the argentea and will go into it knowing they may be overly aggro and will have a backup plan for them if it comes to that. but what other geos could i keep in a colony?

Have you thought about G. pellegrini and G. steindachneri? They are a little tougher than Geos from the Orinoco and Amazon drainage and do well in groups. G. brasiliensis is probably the toughest of all Geos but I don't think you want to keep them in groups.

There are also a lot of attractive CA sand sifters. Look into the genus Astatheros... They don't get too big and have a better chance of surviving the argentea. Come to think about it, that's probably what I'll keep with an argentea in a 150.

Ok so far i my stocking list looks like this:

1x Chocolate cichlid (if there is space then i can get 1 more for a pair)
2x breidohri
2x aequidens metae or diadema (do these guys do better in pairs or groups?)
6x Geophagus sp. Tapajos 'Red head'
1x WC Severum (was told it was a rotkeil but idk)
(maybe) 1x Geophagus Altifrons? (what is the max size on these guys and do they do better in groups?)
(maybe) 1x female festae
5-6x festivum
and some kind of schooling fish
How is the stock list looking so far? Any suggestions or changes? Am i overstocked, understocked, or just right? I would like to get the stock list set in stone as much as possible so i can put the order in as soon as the tank is set up and stable.
