so i have a 120G tank with lots of drift wood. tank has 2 big dopey oscars who could realy care less about anything unless its food. and a 9 inch jaguar, ive also got a 2 inch blue acara who is taking for ever to grow and 2 chocolate cichlids at about 4-5 inches. new to the tank i have 1 male(7inch) and 2 female(4inch) hypsophrys nicaraguensis, im very interested in picking up a male and female amphilophus festae(red terror), by studying my own fish i dont see why this would be a problem, im just looking for oppinions maybe im over looking something..thanks

i think your already pushing it in that tank.. lol
but its alright i guess..
but definately do not drop festaes in there!!!!

im running a fluval xp4. i do 25% water changes every 2 weeks and the pair of festae i found are not small. the male is about 14 inches, same size as my oscars and the female is about 9 inches...im just wanting oppinions i havent decided one way or the other if im going to buy them...thanks again for the info

I'm not going along the lines of filtration and water changes. You could do 3 times more on each and it still wouldn't work. And being that size, even MORE that it won't work! Festae are extremely aggressive while pairing/breeding, territorial, and all your tankmates will have a tough time i am almost certain. Even by themselves, a pair of Festae that size should need atleast a good 180 gallon tank, as I'm sure you see that they can get pretty big.

Also, your not super overstocked, but I think 25% water changes on your tank with those tankmates should be done atleast once a week. Just my .02

I agree , maybe something like 35 - 40% Water Change once a week with the amout of fish you have in and are wanting to put in your tank .

You could do it , depending on the fish themselfs . All fish have all diffrent personality , plus if you do go ahead and add more fish i would deffently think about upgrading and getting a larger tank later on when your fish grow bigger and thnk about more filtertion on the tank too . :)

You can do it but I suggest you upgrade to at least 180g+ within a couple of months. And yes, the Festaes will kill just about everything in your tank within a couple of days. If you choose to get the Festaes, the remaining stock that survived the beating from the Festaes and the Festaes themselves would require a much better filtration system. I am about as overstocked as you but I am upgrading to 210g within 1years time before my Festaes are fully grown. I am also about to upgrade to a very large wet/dry sump with 1800gph pump.

As far as my stock, it's pretty much survival of the fittest. I am giving away my Oscar.
