I set up a colony of peacocks and other Malawi in a display tank at work. Aragonite substrate, Coralife 50/50...I've kept some Tangs but never any of these...I'm hooked and need one at home...I found a 37g on CL for a great price and will get this going soon.

I was planning on filtering it with an AC70 and a Magnum HOT Canister.

Any recommendations for a good, colorful group that will get along well?

Yea, a 37 is small for pretty much any malawi fish.

Seems a little cramped
shellies for sure

they are great, get a ton of sea shells from the hobby store and toss them in they are not so great with color, but personalities are amazing... and they will steal shells from each other and females...and fry are easy to sell, not really see but sell...lol

Haha. Not easly to see, but sell. Sarcasm Redefined.

You could easily keep a good deal of Labidochromis caeruleus and Pseudotropheus demasoni in a tank like that. But only for some time. Eventually they will need to be sorted out and moved to other tanks. I have a 29 gallon with 6 yellow labs and 12 demasoni and it is one of my most active tanks in my house. I have more fry that come from that tank than any of the other 8 that I currently own. The only reason I am able to do this is with many, many rocks.
Take a look at my 50 gallon that I have setup. (This picture was taken before there was water and fish in it)

Image that but with a full background of rocks. It works out well.

Def. NO Demasoni in a 29 gallon, and even the labs would be cramped.
