Stocking - Malawi Mbuna + Haps

Well I think Mike is on to one thing that a species listing like you did is more helpful then a common name as I'm still trying to figure out just what the heck is a White Knight.

4 x 2 x 2 offers you a nice space, and where Mike and I diverge here is I do not see, nor have I experienced any major or huge issues grouping Peaocks or Haps, to the point I favor this. The majority of the time, your Mbuna will not venture up higher in the tank as the majority of the time your Haps and Peacocks will dwell mid and upper. They do not stay there exclusively, but usually have much more size and bulk to them then Mbuna have. To that end hardly at all have I ever seen Mbuna taking on any Hap or Peacock, short of trying to ward off one comming into a breeding spot.

While Labidochromis Caeruleus is mild for the most part, you can't predict any one personality and as Mike said, there are cases you can end up with aggressive ones. If you go with this species, it's probably in your best interest to avoid anything like the Johanni or Auratus or Demasoni. I find these species to be extremely aggressive, too much to mix in with yellows.

One thing I think we have to keep in mind, that tank is covered with glass. While a person can point out in a natural habitat, these species are found together many times, that lake does not have the confines of glass preventing someone from getting beaten up or stressed from moving off and finding a new area. A tank changes things quite a bit.

If you go aggressive, I'd stay aggressive, but if you go milder, I'd stay milder. My opinion is that. Whatever type you go with, stick with it and do not mix milder with higher aggressive types, but that's just me. Watch your genders too. Too many males will = very high stress levels which will take it's toll on the immune systems.

Good points Jon.

You must have a lot better luck than I. Right now my peacock tank has peacocks hanging at the bottom and my mbuna tank has a majority of the fish in the upper levels. lol Speaking of which I need to go feed them.

Good points fellas.

A white Knight is a form of Sci. Fryeri, thats is mostly white with some blue iredescents.

I think it will be all mbuna. With Saulosi, P.Socolofi, and Afras
