hey guys,
i put a post up about stocking my 125 several months ago but some things came up and i had to put things on hold. I am now definitely ready to get the ball rolling and i want some opinions/suggestions on stocking
what i have in mind:
silver dollars (4or5)
green severums (1or2)
oscar (1)
and idk what else or if i can even do anything else

so please give me some suggestions
i like the idea of a JD, salvini, convict, blood parrot, jag,but dont know if any of these will work. I'd love to hear suggestions for other species as well

Thanks!

Maybe;
-1 Oscar
-2 rotkeil severums
-5 red hook silver dollars
-2 sajica cichlids

i like the sajica cichlids, but ive never seen them before. they look like colorful convicts

for filtration i have a rena xp3 and an ac110

1 Black ghost knife
1 male balzini & 3 females
2 or 3 redheads
clown loaches herd
some discuss or angels
1 or 2 small pleco

Might wanna throw another filter on there as well. A 125 packed with cichlids can be very messy.

As far as the sajica, I know Rapps has some in right now. Beautiful fish...I'd go with two males rather than a breeding pair.

Also, I don't know if you're dead set on the Oscar, but I'd go a different route. I'd try something like:

(1) sajica
(1) salvini
(1) severum
(1) festae, jag, argentea, or some other large growing centerpiece fish
(6) silver dollars (I like the red hook idea, or maybe even spotted)

I was wanting a jag over the oscar in the first place, but my lfs owner was trying to persuade me against that. he said the jag would probably tear up my severums and silver dollars

It's possible you could get a jag that would be too aggressive to be housed with any other fish, but if you grow them out together from a young age there is a lesser chance of that happening. Really all depends on the individual fish, but you won't know unless you try.

this is true. I know i want a pair of severums (definitely not a mating pair) and 4or5 silver dollars, i would like 1or2 of the sajica. so i guess i just need to decide on a "main fish". My thing is though i dont want to start out w/ a bunch of 1.5" fish. I really would like to get these at a decent size, no less than 4"? So i know that will play a key role in what to do for the "main fish" of the tank.

A male (Vieja) Argentea would be an amazing centerpiece fish! But I would add more filtration to the tank. I personally would run either 2 XP4s and the AC110 or a sump with the XP3 and AC110. If you can find a decently sized EBJD, that would also look good in the tank. I would avoid Festae or Jags since they grow quite large and can be territorial/aggressive. Maybe a huge school of Lemon Tetras and some Clown Loaches to add some movement and more color to the tank.

FIXED! lOl
