I bought a 20 gallon to go along with my 15 gallon. I am only adding one new species (not already in my 15 gallon) to this mix. Can you tell me what you think about these tanks. Here is a list of the fish species I want to have in whatever numbers are best between the 15 and 20 gallon. Neon tetra, black neon tetra, black skirt tetra, cherry barb, gold barb, rosy minnow, otto, platy
Here is what I came up with

15 Gallon (already established and ready to go):

6 neon tetras
3 Cherry barbs (1 male, 2 female)
3 rosy minnows (I've read they can survive up to 85 degrees. My tanks are set at 76)
2 ottos (to help with algae on the rocks)

20 gallon (will add objects and filter from my turtle tanks and 15 gallon to speed cycling):

4 black neons tetras
4 black skirt tetras
3 gold barbs
2 platys
2 otos

Thanks for the help!

It's fine but you focused too much on the middle level. Add some corydoras or a bristlenose pleco. I would not combine otos and BN plecos as they will have to compete for algae. Choose either.

I just finished the tanks. A few changes. How does this sound?

15 Gallon:

6 neon tetras
3 cherry barbs (1 male 2 female)
2 ottos
2 platys (1 male 1 female) (the male is stunted :( and doesn't try to breed with the female platy. He tries with the neons...)

20 Gallon:

6 black neon tetras
2 gold barbs
2 black skirt tetras
1 bristle nose pleco

The 15g is much safer for shrimps.

Add 3 more black skirts and gold barbs in the 20g.

Lots of changes since I posted this thread!

15 Gallon: 6 Neons, 6 Glowlight Tetras, 2 Ottos

Long 20 Gallon: 6 Black Neon Tetras, 4 or 5 Platys, 1 Bristle Nose Pleco

35 gallon: 1 Firemouth, 6 Gold Barbs, 6 Black Skirt Tetras, 6 Cherry Barbs, 1 Bristle Nose Pleco

They are planted fairly heavily with fake plants. I'm going to purchase anacharis and plant some in my tanks.

What do you think about my stocking now?
