my severums(4"-8") hold up pretty well in my tank. I have a texas(9") and a festae(7.5"). they actually will pick on the festae. Too bad your severum is more mild mannered. He might get picked by an oscar. Maybe try angels or festivums, but on your list I would go with the geos.

My sev has a funny personality. I think aggression-wise he's probably similar to an Oscar. I had a salvini in with him for a few weeks, and the salvini scared the crap out of him. Other than that he has done well with other cichlids. I just would be afraid to try something on the more aggressive end of the spectrum. I had angels with him for a while. It lasted for about a week until he killed my large male angel from my breeding pair

whatever you do don't buy a wild oscar, they are quite different nothing like a domestic oscar much more aggro. Do you like chocolate cichlids?

Thanks, that's really good to know. I really like the look of wild Oscars, but I won't get one now, lol. I don't know much about chocolate cichlids. I don't see them around here ever.

i wouldnt do an oscar. I would do this:
1 Rotkeil Severum
1 blue acara
4 orange head geo
and ur school of rainbow.

Thanks for the suggestion. I really like the orange heads. I have been trying to find some locally, but have had no luck so far. My LFS always stocks the gymnogeos. I don't know why since they need a cooling period, and its pretty hard to keep your tanks cold enough in San Diego, lol.
