Hi guys. I'd love some help getting my new 20G long office tank stocked. It just got filled & will obviously be cycling for a while, so no big rush. Substrate will most likely be black, either sand or fine gravel. Using 50G Aqua-Tech power filter & matching 20G power head. I'm open to any suggestions you have for other fish, too. Keep in mind, this is mostly a grow-out tank for the 55G that will be going in the office lobby next year! For stock, I was thinking:

FROM LFS: Small Spotted Sailfin Pleco (other pleco suggestions?), small Green Terror Cichlid, 5 Tiger Barbs

FROM 29G @ HOME: (1) 3-inch Opaline Gourami & (3) 2-inch Pictus Cats

Will this group work well? Would it work better if I nix the T-barbs or Gourami? Do I need bigger gravel for the GT?

THANKS!!!!!
Jake

I'm hearing that the GT wont do well in a 20G long. I was told a Blue Acara may be better. Any other "Show Fish" ideas for the star of the tank? Maybe a Firemouth or Jack Dempsey, if they need less room? Thanks again!

The "small" sailfin will not stay small. Go with a rubbernose or a bristlenose pleco.

I like the Rubbernose Pleco. Are they wood-eaters? If I get something like a Rubbernose, then move my 3 Pictus Cats to the new tank, can I add a Raphael or African Feather-Fin Cat, or will the bottom be too crowded? I will check into the Kribs. I've heard about them, but never really checked them out. Anything really unique about their behavior, or just a pretty fish?

I would say the three pictus OR the raph, along with a rubber nose pleco and possibly a pair of kribs could work with good filtration and water changes

I know every fish is different, but my Tiger Barbs ended up becoming a late night snack for either a Jack Dempsey or a Green Terror, I'm not sure which.

I've known people to keep them together before, so I'm not going to say it can't be done, I'm just saying......

Ok. So no new cats for me, just the RubNose Pleco. I've decided to leave one Pictus and my Tiger Barb in the tank at home, then get a few more T-barbs for that tank, since he is so stressed out already.
After all I've heard from you guys, I'm gonna skip the big cichlids and probably get a Krib or two. Also, I was told a Blue Acara might work. Any thoughts on one Blue Acara versus Kribs? Or maybe 3 or 4 small Mbuna instead of one other Cichlids?
So, tank list now is:

20GLong @ OFFICE: (1) Rubber Nose Pleco, an unknown Cichlid or 2, (1) 3-inch Opaline Gourami(from home) & (2) 2-inch Pictus Cats(from home), + an invert?

29G @ HOME: (6) Tiger Barbs(5 from LFS), (3) 3-inch Pink Kissing Gourami, (1) 5-inch Albino Chocolate Pleco, (1) 2-inch Pictus Cat, maybe a Bamboo Shrimp or Mystery Snail from LFS?

Thanks so much! You guys are the best!
