Hey guys. I have a 180 gal with a 12 inch highback gold and 7 discus. Things were fine until the discus got stressed out by the aro. The aro doesn't seem to be interested in the discus, but the discus now stay at the bottom towards the back of the tank. I plan to move out the discus. Was thinking of stocking options. I don't really want to keep the aro alone in the tank. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I'm assuming the dimensions are 6x2x2? Not much extra room assuming the size that Aro will potentially get. I would suggest a bottom dweller so their territories won't overlap and they won't fight over food.

Possibly silver dollars or other similar dither type fishes. Discus can be fragile, the aro could injure them or stress them. They could also spook the aro.

I would personally keep the Aro solo with maybe some small bottom dwellers. That's a smaller tank and if it spooks and jumps or slams the glass it could cause major damage. Other fish could spook it, especially at night. Aros are jumpy and skittish at times.

I'm sure others will have some ideas for you. Good luck. Please share some pictures!!!

Yes. It is a 6x2x2. Ideally i would want to get a bigger tank for the aro but i won't be able to upgrade anytime soon. Would be more interested in bottom dwellers. Just want to know my options and get advise from experienced keepers. Thanks for the advise. Cheers mate. Will post pics as soon as i can

If you are certain to upgrade you could go with a docile catfish species. Ripsaw or niger are very cool and super mellow.

You have a Gold aro, you can't really beat that. I really feel that adding anything will just be a distraction.

I'm open to ideas. Was also just thinking of planting the tank. Aros look really cool in planted tanks IMO

+1. But maybe you are like me and single specimen tank is a no go. If I were in your position, I'd add odd balls at the bottom. Bichirs, catfish species that max around 1' due to their whiskers, unless you're sure you will upgrade to a wider tank. Maybe a marbled goby, water cow goby, wolffish.

I have a 220 with a silver aro. I keep mine with a group of 7 full grown roseline barbs. They are great looking fish and spend 99% of the time at the bottom of the tank. Like I said though mine are full size adults. Hard to find. Took me 4 years to find a group of large ones this size.

Also another good option are Geo's They stay bottom to mid and always work well with aro's I also have 3 altifrons and a good size leopard sailfin pleco.

I have Geos which as has been said keep to the bottom and constantly sift through the substrate for any leftovers
I also have a school of 9 decent sized clown loaches which are colorful and playful bringing some life to the bottom and get along great with my Arowana

Thanks for the input guys. I'm thinking of adding a few sengals and maybe a few clown loaches
