I have 2 juvinille oscars in a 110 gallon tank and I was hoping to add some more fish in..

Is it a good idea to add 3 clown loaches to the tank? The loaches will be about 4 - 5 inches since the oscars are also about 5 inches.. If not loaches then what other fish can I add in?

I would also like to know if sting rays are compatible with oscars... I dont plan to add a sting ray right now but I would like to know....

Thanks!

I wouldn't add the Sting rays. They may stick the Oscars or the Oscars may pick at it till it fades away.
As for the loaches. I think it would work, but you wouldn't really be able to add anything else. Thats getting pretty packed in there. Unless you upgrade to a 125 or 150 don't add more than the loaches. I personally like adding SDs to my tank I think they add more life to the tank.
Good luck with what ever you pick.

the oscars might get territoral because theres two of them

first off the oscars will quickly outgrow the clowns and they may be become lunch, and also your oscars will stress a ray and it will die of stress, also the tank is too small for a ray

Thanks for replying..

From what I know clowns grow to about 10 inches and oscars grow to about 12 inches.. I doubt if at this size oscars can harm clowns..

I dont plan to add a ray with these oscars but I wanted to know just incase I get a larger tank in the future.. What tank size would u suggest for a single teacup ray, with no other fish in the tank... Also what tank size would you suggest for an atlantic ray and motoro ray, no other fish in the tank...

Thanks!

a "teacup" ray is just the pet store name for a baby hystrix ray, they still get large, there are unfortunately no rays that stay the small "teacup" size. hystrix are also one of the hardest to keep so if you really want to go into rays go for a motoro or something, and all of these rays would need at least a 200g tank for a single one (but you could of course add other fish to this, this is just minimum IMO footprint-wise), but for rays it is really more about the foot print than the gallons (though they are very messy and need lots of gallons as well but main thing is foot print), and if your Os are very mild then i dont see why you couldnt have them with the rays, IMO it depends on the individual personality and with aggressive eaters like Os you would have to pay special attention that the rays were getting food and everything, but i personally havent kept Os as i dont have a large enough tank yet i have only researched into them and that is what i learned from online and other members on here

oh and i dont see a problem with adding the clowns if they are already 5in, only thing is that they are slow growers so you would really have to make sure that they are that large or the Os will quickly become large enough to swallow them, but at 5in they should be fine though you would really have to do lots of water changes and clowns should really be kept in groups larger than just 3, i personally wouldnt keep less than 4-5 together as a minimum group

Your oscars will grow to near max size in a year or two

The clown loaches will probably grow only slightly larger in that time.

Still, I don't think an adult oscar could eat a 5" loach.

Thanks for replying :)

I shall search for large clown loaches 6 - 7 inches or so.. The main reason I thought of keeping 3 clown loaches and not more is because I felt the tank is not large enough to house 2 oscars + 5 clown loaches...

Sarah88 was correct above, clowns are best kept in "shoals", or small groups . . . 3 clowns is a bit small to be considered a shoal, I've always kept them in groups of at least 5 . . .

which is not to say you shouldn't do it, just FYI . . .

yeah i meant to comment on the 2 Os as well, with or without the clowns a 110 is not big enough for two full grown oscars as there will most likely be territory disputes and if not you will still have to be doing 50% water changes like twice a week to keep nitrates in check, if you get rid of one of the oscars then i wouldnt see any issue with the clowns if you can find larger ones (which are really hard to find and really expensive because clowns that big are going to already be several years old) if you can get them to work together and not overfeed and keep nitrates down then it could work but i dont think you could add anything to the tank

and in my previous post i meant i haven't personally kept rays, i have definitely had Os in the past lol (i dont know where my head was at with that post lol)
