The 12-20 will only be temporary until you figure which ones are males and females.

You could also look into the P Aceis with Yellow Labs, two of the more docile Mbuna. The Acei's are a purplish-blue. Don't know how set you are getting a pure blue.
Other blue species include Mangianos and johannis.

I second aceis and yellow labs. They get along great in my 55, I have 3 yellow labs in there and 6 acei. I'm not sure how many would be ok in a 40 though.

Acei are some of the largest mbuna (not really a rock dweller).
