stocking question

You have a GT and Festae already and want to add a couple more to a 200g tank, correct? If so, you have many options... Argentea, Bocourti, Synspillum, Midas, Pearsei, Cuban, Loiselle, Lyonsi, Amarillo... not sure what you can get down in Australia tho. I don't see why you cannot choose two of any of these to be honest... a Pearsei and Lyonsi would look nice with the two you already have, imo.

my male festae went from 2 to 10 inch in 11 months dude!-) lost him the other day along with the female when i had my cloudy water issue, theres a pic on that thread of the dead fish with a tape measure... just saying they dont all grow slowly.

What!!! I didn't see that, I'm sorry to hear this bro!!

oh wow I love all these options haha, how many more could i choose like just so i have a number to work with? I would presume two but I'm not the expert so thats where you come in haha. thanks man

small Dempsey's will end up being a dither for that combo. Eventually the Oscar will be seen as the enemy because it will eat all the food . Another dither as well after a year or so . I would go with a Cuban with that combo.

I have a 265g tank with 16 fish in it, however they are grow outs... they all started together (actually prolly about 25 to start) at 1-2". I have trimmed the heard some and will need to continue that. I plan on keeping about 6 or so long term. Some people don't like doing this since you will need to bring fish back to the store or find a taker every time you trim the herd. Long term you will be fine with your two and two more in my opinion. At 2" you could obviously keep way more than four fish, but that would mean finding takers for the ones you don't keep as time passes... I do it, but it may not be the best practice. If you really want to get fish and keep them all forever, I would not keep more then four of the fish mentioned. Also, keep in mind that all fish have their own personality and may not play nice with others.... trial and error... when keeping cichlids and more specifically trying to mix cichlids we need to be prepared to remove, re-home or divide a fish from another. Good luck!!!

Sorry, one last question. You say I could add a Midas but I hear everywhere that they grow fast and just kill everything. Are you sure that would work? I'm curious because they are pretty cool and I'm considering adding one but I would like the other fish to live to haha

They do grow fast.it would be a 50/50 shot if the Midas works long term.around 6 inch size, they would possibly try to dominate the whole tank, not fun to watch IMO.but if the RD was female then maybe she would do ok, but they can go physco too.I would try CA-boucorti, synspilum,Freddie, lyonsi, pearsei. or possibly some other SA-severum, chocolate

Thanks, might just go with a jack dempsey or a texas to save myself the hassle, I like cichlids like that rather than death haha.
