I have a 92 gallon bowfront corner tank, and I'm looking to stock it. Only problem is that the office already has a tank stocked with cichlids. I'd like to avoid any repetition in the new tank. I've thought about African cichlids, but the variety of the SA/CA cichlids really impresses me more. I guess I could be open to africans with the right setup, but I'd prefer SA/CA cichlids.

The other tank has: green terror, jack dempsey, salvini, firemouth, gold severum, blood parrot, jurupari, 3 red hook silver dollars, jewel, and a sailfin pleco.

any suggestions? I like the look of the jaguar, but I'm afraid it'll be too aggressive with a populated tank.

I've been really impressed with the wealth of knowledge on these boards- id really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks guys.

You should reconsider africans, there is a lot more variety, color, and diversity. If you want something different go with Tanganyikan cichlids specifically.

First there is no way I would house anything with a jag in a 92 gallon tank.

Second you want to avoid repetition... it looks like the other tank has pretty much covered the whole CA/SA cichlid theme.

Africans may be a good idea if you are trying to do something "different" and to be fare africans are WAAAAAY more diverse in behavior and color than new world cichlids. A mbuna, peacock, or tanganyikan community tank may be a good idea.

If you are truly set on new worlds I would maybe look into doing a single wet pet like maybe a red devil.

-1 on the devil , i have them you dont want them as your solo fish..

if you do solo get a flowerhorn, oscar, trimac, jag, all are much better wet pets

africans are lame stick to ca or sa or hybrids, everyone and there dog has a stupid african tank....

if you want a bunch of fish i would dump the jewels out of the tank, and the red hooks and that sailfin most likely the pleco is doing more harm than good. that would clear up some space i would also if it was me personally would ditch the severums and the the jd too

but i will say jags are awesome,

Chuckle... Actually it appears everyone and their dog has a CA/SA tank ;).

African or ca/SA tank will work. If you like color, I would suggest an African peacock tank...if you want a wet pet, you can't go wrong with a medium sized SA/ca wet pet.

If you want a community rather than a single fish, I would tilt toward Africans as in a 90 gallon, ca/SA offers fewer choices.

There are colorful and active fish that will thrive in the 92 gallon. A tank of Apistos with a few schooling fish would look nice. There are also Cryptoheros species that remain a manageable size that you could keep. As mentioned there are also a few solo pets that you could keep. I wouldn't suggest keeping a Jag in a 92 gallon long term with tank mates, especially a male. They get huge and require their space. Dwarf Cichlids, Dwarf Pikes, medium-sized cichlids (I'm not saying mix all of these together though) are choices that would give you a community without the need to upgrade or deal with too much aggression. But as with all these fish, breeding can also alter their behavior. You don't necessarily have to choose the really aggressive CA/SA cichlids to have a striking tank.

see thats funny , no one around me here has a big collection of sa or ca cichlids ,aside from myself. guess it could be regional but i just hate african aside from the frontosa, and a few select others i consider them all to be food .

Very true a group of Angels with tetras would make a very elegant setup companied by some cory catfish and small apistos. Don't know what macframalama has against red devils but about 99% of people who kept them will tell you they are some of the most interactive fish out there and are sure to entertain you. And at least around here the vast majority of people keep old world cichlids. Finding anything besides mbuna is nearly impossible. It may help for you to tell us a bit more of what you are looking for in the tank.

tang shell dwellers would look nice
