Stocking suggestions for 125g

Personally, I would add a group of cories, shoal of tetras and some good looking plecos and call it a day. It would be a nice SA tank.

It sounds like you want a cichlid of some type, if you were ok mixing CA & SA species(it bothers some people, me included) you could add convicts, firemouths or Honduran Red Points. If you go with CAs my vote is for the HRPs - they have a really sharp blue color to them and breed like crazy.

I would be okay mixing CA and SA so long as aggression is not an issue. I won't have much room to rehome some fish if it goes south, so the aggressors may be traded in at the LFS.

I am leery of convicts and if I were to get any, it would only be a single convict so as not to end up with a breeding pair.

I might think about firemouths since they add with the red of the geos and I read they are more bark than bite.

I love the look of the honduran red points, but I have read they have been very heavily bred with the tankard convicts. I would love to get a pair of these if they are the real deal and not hybrids. And I have seen several different scientific names for them, but what is the correct one? Jeff Rapps has them on his stock list with the scientific name of Amatitlania siquia sp. Honduran red point. Any idea if these are the real thing?

Jeff Rapps is reputable and I would take his word. I actually bought four from him last summer(?) and managed to get a breeding pair out of the group. I lost the male however - jumper. Anyways, I highly recommend the particular stock he has. The blue on them is really sharp, they look like African cichlids.

How many do you think I can keep with my 2 severums and 6 geo red heads?

i got 4 severum and one firemouth,i think they are a nice mix, just be carefull adding more aggresive CA type of fish, and stick to low tempared cichlid, firemouth could be still in the range although they have aggresion issues a bit, also jack dampsey could fit, just not vieja,GT,jaguar etc

Do you think Honduran red points could work or will they be too aggressive for the SA cichlids?

How bout a lake nicuragua set up Mabey a true red devil from rapps and some convicts and some neets that would be cool with all the big round rocks

While i think red devils are good looking, I prefer the less aggressive cichlids. I enjoy a small amount of attitude in my fish, but there are a lot of cichlids that just have too much. And I have already paid for the geos. I am just waiting on my tank filtration to arrive and I will go pick them up after the tank is running.
