Hi le0p. I'm planning to set up a 30 gallon cichlid tank and came across your thread. I'd love to hear how your tank is doing now. Are the shell-dwellers getting along with the Julies?

Hi, the tank has been doing great! The julies and shellies get along great actually. The shellies were in the tank first and decided to primarily populate the rocks so when the julies went in there was some territorial conflict but it was pretty minor. Over a few days the julies took over the rock and the shellies moved into the shells and started staking out their territory there. They've been pretty peaceful ever since. The catfish probably take most of the aggression in the tank.
I had two older shellies, both male, and added four more juveniles which turned out to be two male and two female. The alpha shellie claimed both females and they just spawned for the first time recently! I've got about 10 fry right now. Unfortunately, I lost a julie recently due to jumping again. I forgot to close the lid one night after feeding and I woke up to 1 less julie
I should be bringing two more julies home this weekend as well as another catfish or two. I've also added more rock since the pictures in this thread for the julies. This is from a little while ago and I added another rock piece to the wall since, but this is pretty much what it looks like now except the shellies have dug out their territories MUCH deeper.
