Stocking suggestions

Leporinus would make a nice addition to tank due to its different shape body. They tend to have them at the chain stores now and then, and they grow super fast. If you go in the way of a severum, try to get a super red to throw some nice color into that tank. Also, can't go wrong with a school of clown loaches

I've had several Leporinus species over the years, the only one commonly available is the banded, which is a very nice fish and gets big, is not too mean and will add a lot of color, I think that is one that's on my list for the tank. I have several loaches, but no clowns and probably will keep the tank S. A. only, but they are cool fish. Thought about pink-tailed Chalceus also, I nothing that stays at the surface.

i have a pinktail with my chocolates and is doing good, not a bully, stays top to mid level.but gets spooked easy from outside tank movement.i like the shape difference in the tank.in your experience, did the leporinus you have had max out at what size? did they try to bite any tankmates?

I have had both Leporinus and Anostomus of various species. The common A. anostomus was a fin nipper, it gets about 4 inches. A. taeniatus the Lisa was a large (8-10 inches) and a nice species but rarely seen, the common banded Leporinus was pretty benign, I don't remember it causing any problems. One got up to 10-12 inches or so and got a nice orange throat which they get with age. It was actually rather shy and hid quite a bit, but it was in with a big Silver Arowana and several large Severums. L. stiata gets about 5 inches has black and white horizontal bands but you don't see them very often, I don't remember them being very aggressive either. I think it depends on what you keep with them, they would likely bother things with delicate fins like angels, but typical cichlids would probably be left alone. They will sometimes fight among themselves, don't know if it's because they are both males or just territorial, I don't know of a way to sex them.

That's why I suggested a GT. My experience there not very aggressive.

I guess the "terror" part was a turn off, haha. I have never had one, would you keep a male, female or a pair?

BTW I put the Firehead in the tank today, so far it has only gone after any silver dollars that got into its personal space (i.e. right next to it), we'll see if it gets more aggressive as it settles in.

I'd get a nice male! I think any cichlids when mating will get more aggressive so I'd just get 1 either or male or female

Picked up 3 Orange-shouldered Severum and a Banded Leporinus for the tank, will have them in quarantine for a while.

How about looking into eartheaters? You might want to swap out the gravel for sand substrait, but they aren't aggressive and will add some color.

I have 4 different Geo species (in other tanks) and if I can find some S. jurupari I would love to have them in the 125. The eartheaters I have do fine with gravel, though I have then with sand currently, I have had them in a gravel tank.

Any ideas for catfish for this tank? I have Bristlenose Ansistrus so far, but want a scavenger species. I would love to have a nice O. niger cat, I've had them before, but they alway outgrow the tank!

What does everyone think of blue acara cichlids? I like the look of them, just don't know if they are available locally.

I like the look of the EB Jack Dempsey and heard they are more mellow than the wild type, but am still worried about aggression.
