the otters live everywere, theres tons in the everglades its just that they arent often seen due to shyness and living in heavily forested rivers. They are mean little bastards

lol i live in south florida so otters arent uncommon, and i know i could do alot more fish i just want there to be plenty of room for em all. Like i said i just want a few monsters nothing under 14 inches.
An ornate birchir might be an interesting addition, i just dont know if i will ever see him lol.
You are right about not seeing the bichir....If i had the space i would add a red tail catfish or tiger shovel nose

i have looked at both of them my only concern 10 years down the road when they are 50lb 4ft long fish if they will eat my other fish lol, see my dilemma i need big fish but not ludicrously big.

Yeah i have the same problem with 500g aquarium.......Datnoids (Siamese tiger fish) max out between 12-16 inches and are very pretty fish...Booooooooom got you the answer :P

ahhhhh datnoids, forgot about those little things, i like the pacu idea too. Maybe 3-4 datnoids and a red bellied pacu? and i know i "could" do more but i want plenty of room for when they are full grown lol they may look small at first when its a little school of 5 inch fish but in a couple years when its a school of 4 14-16" inch datnoids, a pair of 2ft peacock bass and a 10lb pacu you wont be saying to put more in lol.
