Couldn't tell you, sorry. I know you said you wanted to keep it "new world", but Denison barbs are truly one of my favorite non-cichlid fish. As for silver dollars, most species get rather large.
Well, I was going to go with your suggestion, but the LFS wanted $25 each for the desention barb or redline shark. Is that the going rate for them? I picked up a small red spot severum while I was there for $30. Seems crazy to me the barbs are almost as much? I may go back and get some of that is the norm, or check some other LFS.

Got new guy in my hospital tank for quarantine. The smaller EBJD was already in hospital tank until the 125 is ready and I can put them all together again. So no he has a hospital tank buddy. He ate already which is a great sign. Pics are not great and he's pretty shy. Colors are a little pale, but I'm sure he is stressed from the move.

So I'm loving this little guy. They had 2 of the red spots at the LFS. Would it be a bad idea to get the 2nd? Too much for the 125 once everyone is full grown? 2ebjd, 2 severum, 1 angel, 3 Pictus.
as for your question about colombian tetras, they are definitely less nippy than buenos aires. That said they can still nip a bit but i've found they are better than the BAs by a long shot, prettier too
Sounds fine, as long as you have adequate filtration. Hopefully the angel doesn't get bullied.
Right now the angel is the biggest of them all. He is very mellow, but definitely holds his own with the 5 inch EBJD. I've not decided if I'm going to go get the 2nd severum.
