So my male Paratheraps Bifasciatus has decided he wants to be the only cichlid in his tank, I know he has a deep hatred of catfish and other bottom dwellers. In the past he has completely ignored small non cichlids such as tetra and swordtails but he has got more aggressive since then.
Can't make up my mind weather to.
1 Solo fish.
2 Just him and some wild type swordtails, could be risky though.
3 Sell him and do a south American biotope based around apistogramma sp. A tank I have always wanted to try.
My tank is 211 gal 76 by 28 by 24 high.
I think option 2 is my favourite, just I am only 75% sure he will ignore the swordtails.

Personally, I'd get him his own 125 and use the 211 for your apistogramma SA tank. If that isn't an option, try doing option 2, and if he isn't willing to play nice, then I'd probably sell him. Super nice fish, but personally if I'm using a 200+ gallon for a single fish, it would have to be a dovii umbee or haitensis.

Thanks, cannot get any more tanks for a couple of years so that option is out. As a solo wet pet he is up there with any umbee, hatiensis he glass bangs like a good un, but I see your point.

I agree, that sounds like a beautiful setup. Apistogramma are awesome little fish, and think about how many you could do! could try your hand at discus as well in that setup

That sounds amazing to me.Big tanks are not just for big fish.
I'm totally on board with what you are saying about scale,something often overlooked.
Just think of the intricate scape you could have.
Think I would add a massive shoal of one species of tetra.
If you go down this road, I for one will be envious when it's finished I'm sure.

Yea if I did it thinking one big shoal of tetra, 2 male 6 female apistogramma, a group of corydoras but I still really like my big man, also selling big cichlids can be a death sentence at times.
