Looking to start a 75 gallon tank. All the African cichlids I want will get up to 8 inches.

How many can I get into the tank?

What species are they?
This is a good question, because Africa is a giant continent with over a thousand species of cichlids.
Some are loners, some not, some like to live in species groups, some can live in communities.
Some love hard water, some soft, some neutral or it won't matter.
If you were to narrow it down to rift lake African Mbuna species of lake Malawi you may get a few answers, if you asked about Aulonacara from Lake Malawi it may be different, or if you said said Tropheus of Lake Tanganyika, the answers may be totally different.
If you narrow it down a bit, the OP question can be more reliably answered.
An example
If you want some Kribensis type, and some rift lake type Mbuna, it might require 2 different tanks.

Haha to be completely honest, I don’t know what types. Like what was said from above there are thousands. All I have pinned down is fish that get up to 8”.

The tank size has changed as well. Looking at a 150 gallon now

This is Where I am looking. Don’t really know what’s compatible and what isn’t.

From the website are there any fish that you have to have? That can give us a starting point.

Mdoka White Lips - Placidochromis Phenochilus sp., Blue Regal Peacock (Aulonocara stuartgranti Cobue), Tangerine Tiger Hap,
Ruby Red Peacock "Roter Kaiser" (Aulonocara Sp. Rubescens)

Theses are the guys that I am looking at

Maybe an all male hap/peacock tank is for you then. It takes awhile to get the right mix, but worth it if you get a mix that works.

If you don't mind having bland females, you can do a breeding tank of a few different species. Only problem with this is of say 20 fish you'll only have a single male of each species showing good color.
