I am setting up some pvc under the gravel to get the water moving, but I am afraid that if the power goes out the tank will drain into the sump and flood the floor. Is there any type of pump that doesn't allow backflow, or maybe some type of switch to close up the tube?

Just drill a small hole right at or below the water line in the tank. It'll break the siphon

thats the best idea your gonna get. works wonders! hole only has to be the size of this ---> "o" to work

yeah thats what I do it works great, and your not going to lose any pressure because of the little hole.(well no high amount anyway lol)

IMO a hole is the only fail safe way (if you have a couple and make sure they stay clean). You could use a check valve but then you run the risk of it failing.

drill the hole, it's a must.

I didn't think that would have worked but thanks for the input. Just to be clear I have a 210 gal tank. How large are the tanks you guys use this on?

110, 125, 265, 300

300 only right now. have used it on 55, 29, 90, 125 also.
