Does anyone know of any stores within say 200 miles of northwest Arkansas that regularly carry bichirs (besides senegals)? The two closest to me get one in on occassion but not very often.

Ask if the ones close to you could order other species for you-Anne

Well, I've tried that and they don't seem to eager. The first one sat there and said, sure, I'll add some ornates to the next order (bc thats what I was looking for at the time) and he said just give us a call before you come by. Well, that was a month ago, and they still haven't ordered any. They didn't ask for any payment up front or anything, just what I was after. Then a couple of weeks ago, when I talked to the other store about bichirs, we went down his list of what was available, I told him which ones I would be interested in, and he did the same thing "I'll see if I can get some in". I talked to him yesterday, and he gave me some line about, well I haven't placed any freshwater orders, I don't know when I will, so we will just wait and see. They are nice guys at both of the LFS, but if I sit there and tell him, I want this one, he knows I'm gonna buy it, I've already bought the 2 he had previously and ask weekly about new ones...It just gets old.

Why don't you just order some yourself? Just get a few of them to make the shipping worth it. (about $40) I have yet to see anything other than Sen's in a pet store. I totally know the run around you are getting. I think it's the "tell them what they want to hear to keep them coming back" line. LOL

Good Luck.

my LFS gave me run round trying to order them2 6 months to get a palmas polli i ordered a del. ordering youself would be my sugestion

I've exchanged a couple emails with the guys at Rehoboth aquatics. Just sucks doubling the price for the bichir just for shipping. But I guess if thats what it's gonna take, thats what I have to do.

Buy many many bichirs and it won't be price doubling! ;)

Maybe I can talk to the local shops and see if they would be interested in buying some if I did some larger purchases. I kinda like where this is going....
